Arts & SciencesCall for Teachers Baintighearna Ruadhnait inghean Ruaidhri are calling out
to the artisans of the East to share their knowledge. We welcome
classes in any scholastic or marshal area. Please contact Lady Ruadhnait
who will be coordinating the class schedule. ExhibitionArtisans and Scholars of all levels are cordially invited to show their works at our Arts and Sciences Exhibition on Saturday, May 29th! Set up is from 11-12 AM, and entrants should take their work down around 4 PM, so that the hall may be readied for Court. In the interim, from 12-3, all attendees at Panteria XV are invited to come, comment, and generally marvel at the wonderous works produced over the long winter in our fair Kingdom! Northern Peaks Regional Art & Sciences Championship: The artisans of the Northern Peaks Region are invited and encouraged to bring forth the works of their hands for the purpose of finding the next champion. RULES: 1. All entrants must be at least fourteen (14) years old at the time of the Championship. 2. All entrants must live in the Northern Peaks Region of the East Kingdom. 3. All entrants must attest that all work and documentation entered in the Championship is their own, with any exceptions to this clearly and obviously identified in their documentation. 4.The winner of the Championship will be expected to help organize next year's Northern Peaks Region Championship, or contact Baintighearna Ruadhnait inghean Ruaidhri to explain why this is not possible. 5. The winner will return their insignia to Lady Albreda (or her delegate) before next year's Championship, so that it can be awarded to the new Champion. 6. Judges will be as thorough in their assessments as time reasonably allows, and will be as impartial as possible in their assessments of each entrant's work. Not age, nor status within the SCA, nor any other factor other than what is presented to them in the context of this Championship will impact the judges' scores, to the best of the judge's ability. 7. Each entrant and judge will be required to attest, in writing, that they have read these rules and the below Scoring Criteria and Judging Procedures, and will comply with them. A&S 50 Round Table, facilitated by Lady Albreda Aylese:
An opportunity for artisans to discuss the A&S 50 requirements and works in progress. A Typical Work Day in Medieval Life, taught by Else von Oberfranken : Correcting Calligraphic Mistakes, taught by: Oops! That was supposed to be an 'a' not an 'e', now what to do? This class will cover how to fix mistakes, scrape off stray marks, and make period corrections. There will be a hands-on portion so you can try out some of your new medieval editing skills. Please, bring a x-acto knife if you have one, and any mistakes you'd like to correct. Dance Practice for the Moonlight Ball, taught by Lady Isabel of Worchesope: We will cover the following dances. (in this order, as time allows): Rufty Tufty, Sellenger's Round, and Heart's Ease. English Country Dances, taught by Lady Mickel von Salm: We will cover the following dances.(in this order, as time allows): Lorayne Almayn Black Almayn Horses Bransle Pinagay Bransle Gathering Peascods Upon a Summer's Day Black Nag Anello Home Schooling and the SCA, facilitated by Lady Albreda Aylese: Many SCAdians have made the choice to educate their children at home. This round-table is an opportunity for home schooling SCAdians to share and support each other and for prospective home-schoolers to meet with experienced home-schoolers. Introduction to Cloisonne Enamels, taught by Baintighearna Ruadhnait inghean Ruaidhri: This is a hands-on class wherein each participant will have the opportunity to design and fabricate a cloisonné pendant to take home. The class is limited to 12 participants, but observers are welcome and hand-outs will be made available free of charge. There is a $5 materials fee for participants. Introduction to Medieval Enamels, taught by Baintighearna Ruadhnait inghean Ruaidhri: An overview of the history and evolution of the art of enameling from the ancient through medieval period. Introduction to Naalbinding & Naalbinding Round Table, taught by Pomestintsa Mairead Scherbatskaja: Learn basic naalbinding stitches. A round table discussion will follow the introductory class for intermediate and advanced naalbinders to share their knowledge. Pennants and Badges, taught by Anne of the Fuzzy Hat: This class will provide materials for participants to make small heraldic pennants and/or badges they can display at their campsites, on their garb, or even on larger banners. Basic materials in SCA heraldic colors will be provided, but each student will have to bring their own creativity and fun spirit along to succeed in this endeavor. This may be especially fun for A&S 50 participants since they can display these devices on the A&S 50 banners that the Barony of Stonemarche will be bringing along. Disclaimer- this is an ADULT class- minors will be allowed at the discretion of the instructor and only with a supervising guardian. Trapunto! A brief history and Trapunto Token Tote, taught by Anne of the Fuzzy Hat: Join us to learn this Italian medieval quilting technique. This class is broken down into two sessions. The first session will cover a brief history and project preparation. The second session will be all practicum- learning stitches and actually creating a Trapunto Token Tote. While this is an introductory class designed for BEGINNERS, we also welcome more advanced stitchers to join in with us. All materials and handouts are included. Uust's Hammered Brass Patterning, taught by Lady Frigga Halladottir: All who can aim a hammer are welcome to attend and create a shiny designed piece to add to decorate your armor, leather bag or belt, a box cover, or whatever you can think of! The basics will be taught with all supplies available (for a tiny fee, TBD). A handout is available for no charge.
